Maggiano's GF Dinner

I recently had a chance to dine with some friend in the city and I suggested Maggiano's on Clark street. I have heard trhough the GF circles that they will prepare you a fine gluten free meal ( with rice pasta!) They do not have a gluten free menu per se, however, I was treated very well. The manager knew I needed a gluten free meal (I called ahead-and requested this when I made my reservation). I when it comes to gluten free dining it seems that the Lettuce Entainment Restaurants (Wildfire, Maggiano's, PF Changs...) are two steps ahead of the other restaurants!

The head chef came to my table and asked me what I would like. We discussed her recommendations and I chose the linguine rice pasta with Alfredo sauce, shrimp and broccoli. She also showed me a yellow ticket that was attached to my order warning all kitchen staff of a gluten alert (she called it an allergy...).

Even though I could not partake in the bread being dipped in olive oil, I was happy with my bottle of red wine! Everything was great! They even gave me my dessert (a mixture of huge blackberries, blueberries and strawberries with fresh whipped cream) for FREE!

Gluten Free Sweets

I am always getting new information and websites emailed to me to share on this website. I was excited to hear about Roh & Jo's Gluten Free Sweets, Inc. What a great resource for people on a gluten-free diet. I do not bake and I am always looking for a shortcut when it comes to cookies, pies and cakes. My birthday is not until January, but I plan on contacting Roh & Jo for my birthday cake! Anyone tried their sweets? Let us know what you think! www.glutenfreesweets.com

I AM GLUTEN FREE

Eating out is still complicated, especially when the people you are dining with don't understand your dietary needs. Sometimes I am made to feel ashamed of my illness. It seems to embarrass some members of my family. This is very sad, and I'm struggling to deal with it. That is why it is important for Celiac's to have a support system. My Mother's day celebration would have been better if we ate at home or a restaurant with a designated gluten-free menu. I like this message card and I will keep a copy of it in my purse from now on. I know there are companies that you can purchase these cards from, but you can also make your own.
